Questions and Answers

WHAT IS 4D ULTRASOUND?

4D ULTRASOUNDS takes 3D ULTRASOUND images, or sonograms (still shots) of your baby, and adds the element of time to the process making it live video.

IS IT SAFE? ARE THERE ANY RISKS TO MY BABY AND ME?

Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound causes no maternal or fetal harm. 3D/4D ultrasounds use exactly the same type of intensity of ultrasonic (sound) waves as the conventional 2D scan. Nationally credentialed individuals will perform the ultrasound.

HOW FAR ALONG SHOULD I BE BEFORE I HAVE A 3D/4D ULTRASOUND?

If you're planning to only have one session we recommend between 24 and 32 weeks. However, optimal images can be obtained from 18-36 weeks. Many choose our 2-visit platinum plus package to see the baby's growth form the 2nd to 3rd trimester. For twins, we recommend scans to be done between 22-27 weeks. Expectant mothers that are full figured should consider an ultrasound between 28 and 32 weeks for best results.

WILL INSURANCE COVER MY ULTRASOUND?

At this time insurance will not cover the cost. Since this is an elective procedure and is not intended to be a replacement for your diagnostic ultrasound that is ordered by your doctor. The cost is an out of pocket expense. We except cash, debt cards and major credit cards.

WILL I GET A GOOD 3D PHOTO OF MY BABY?

Yes, in most cases you will. However, if your baby is facing toward your spine it may be difficult to see the baby's face. If your baby doesn't cooperate the first time, a complimentary rescan will be rescheduled for that pregnancy. Every baby scans differently, depending on the gestational age, position, amount of fluid, placenta location and mother's body habitus. However, we promise to make every attempt to obtain the best quality photos.

WHAT CAN I DO TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE ULTRASOUND?

Drink plenty of water but we do not require you to have a full bladder just stay hydrated. Please drink more water than you normally consume for 2-3 days prior to your appointment. Hydration can significantly improve the clarity of the ultrasound. The ability to obtain a good image is still very dependent on fetal position as well as others factors mentioned above.

WHAT KIND OF ULTRASOUND EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

We use state of the art technology-GE Voluson I. GE has been shown in TV commercials and featured in many articles from around the world, and is the best ultrasound machine to perform 3D/4D live motion imaging.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

Yes, appointments are necessary

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Depending on the package you choose, the 4D ultrasound session will last between 15-30 minutes. Plan on spending an hour with us for this wonderful experience.

MAY I BRING MY FAMILY OR FRIENDS?
